Sol2Soul Inspiration & Story
SOL2SOUL INSPIRATION
First and foremost, I want to thank Jesus for being my CEO. In addition, everyone who I have crossed paths with in my lifetime has influenced my life in some way. I thank God everyday for blessing me with amazing familia and friends! You all have been my number one contributors and supporters. The dream of creating Sol2Soul is shared with all of you!
In December 2007, I was led to John 12:46 in the Bible which says, “I have come as the a light into the world that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.” John 8:12 states, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
Seven years ago, I was surprised with a lovely gift by a friend. It was the meaning of my name in a matted frame. It was so nice:)! I found out Evelina means “light.” Then as you may have guessed Solis is derived from the word “Sol” which translated in English means “sun,” or I translate it to mean “Son.” I understood it to mean that Jesus is the light that lives in me and I am a child of God. It really brought me so much peace and joy to be enlightened with this amazing message from God.
A few weeks after I was led to these Biblical passages, I talked to an amazing friend, Kyle Clark, who I admire so much! I sat down and told him about my mission and my vision and some of the concepts that came to me over the Christmas holiday. Literally, after a 5 minute conversation, he wrote on a lime green post-it note (which I still have on my computer today) a few words. I believe it was a message from God delivered through him. From that day on, my new company name was Sol2Soul. He said he just wrote down what I said while I was talking to him. I told you he is a genius
!
The first “Sol” is the first 3 letters of my last name which means “sun.” The last “Soul” means that I have a “calling” to save and reach souls. I pray to reach souls to bring them the “light” of God that lies in each of them. Therefore, Sol2Soul will be the avenue to touch individuals’ lives!
On the same note, we have the light within us and we have the responsibility to share it with the world. I am trying to do my part and then plan to train others to do theirs. As a Life Coach, I want to help you find your “vocation” or your “calling.”
I have heard this concept before and really took it to heart this time around: “In order to change the world, we have to change ourselves. We have to continue to improve ourselves, evolve, learn, and grow.” Then it was clear to me that we have two choices; we can either change the world or be changed by the world. You can either live for a greater purpose or live for yourself.
What will you choose? It is now up to you.
Research has shown that everyday in America:
- 1,377 unwed teenage girls become mothers.
- 1,106 teenage girls get an abortion.
- 500 adolescents begin using drugs.
- 4,219 teenagers contract a sexually transmitted disease.
- 1,000 adolescents begin drinking alcohol.
- 3,610 teens are assaulted, 80 are raped.
- 2,861 teens drop out of high school.
- 420 children are arrested for drug abuse.
- 5,388 youth are arrested
- 6 teens commit suicide.
EVELINA’S STORY
The reason why I sing thanks and praises to the LORD is because I realize he has given me a gift to be a blessing to many. The Bible lets us know many are called, but few are chosen. I know God has chosen me, because I have a love and compassion for people that I could never explain in words.
I am a miracle standing before you. Just three years ago, I was in a wheelchair hooked up to an oxygen tank being injected with blood thinner twice a day by an at-home health care nurse. I was cared for daily by my parents who had to suddenly pack their bags and move themselves from New Braunfels, Texas to Miami, Florida until I was stabilized and fully recuperated. My maternal grandmother had to step in and help out my family. She came to Texas from Chicago to make sure my teenage brother was making it to school every day and eating well. It was a very difficult time in our lives. I am so thankful for a wonderful big family!
I was hospitalized with a pulmonary embolism (PE), a condition that occurs when an artery in your lung becomes blocked. It became blocked by a blood clot that traveled from my left calf into my lungs causing extreme difficulty breathing and severe chest pains. According to Mayo Clinic, PE is the third most common cause of death in the US, with at least 650,000 cases occurring annually. It is the first most common cause of unexpected death in most age groups.
Doctors didn’t think I was going to make it, because I had permanent damage to my lung from lack of blood flow and oxygen which eventually lead to a painful case of pneumonia. I had to have a pleural effusion done. Doctors had to go into my left lung and drain the fluid with a painfully big long needle. They numbed the area, but I was up for the whole procedure. Last May, I went in for a normal check up and out of nowhere found out that I had to be tested for Leukemia, Breast Cancer, Bone Marrow Cancer and Autoimmune Disorders due to the continual decrease in my platelet count (determines the rate at which your blood clots) and white blood cell count (determines the presence of infection and correlates directly with the immune system). As a result of the low blood counts, I had a left Breast Biopsy done at the age of 28. Thank you, Jesus, all of those tests came back negative.
Doctors were trying to get to the bottom of my blood counts decreasing. They just cannot explain it. In late July, I was hospitalized with complications from Lupus and was admitted into the hospital for 25 days! I suffered 3 seizures that affected my life dramatically. Doctors told my family that my recovery could take many months up to a year. As a result, I am currently undergoing physical, occupational and speech therapy at Christus Santa Rosa Rehabilitation Center in New Braunfels, Texas for four months. In addition, I am having chemo therapy at the Austin Diagnostic Center once a month for six months to try and push Lupus into remission. In Jesus name, I claim that I will be completely healed from any diseases or illnesses:). Regardless of what my family saw or heard, we kept our faith in God and totally relied on Him for comfort, peace and healing.
During these difficult times in my life, I learned a valuable lesson from Psalms 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” Over the last eight years, God has been revealing His wonderful plan for me, but I was not still enough to listen. He let me know that He has so much in store for my life. Sol2Soul, my Academic/Life Coaching and Inspirational Speaking Company, is part of His master plan. Also, I was led to start an inspirational radio talk show on Blog Talk Radio. You can get all the latest information by going to www.blogtalkradio.com/Sol2Soul and www.blogtalkradio.com/LatinosUnidos. The radio shows give advice on how to seek your passion, find your soul and love your life.
Last year, I made the big decision to leave my job at the University of Texas at Austin as the Leadership & Ethics Institute Advisor to go on the road full-time to speak at schools, colleges, non-profits, churches and companies to bring inspiration, hope and love to people around the world. I have so much to be thankful for!
Today, three years later, I am no longer in a wheelchair or hooked up to an oxygen tank to breathe. I live life to the fullest!
For this reason, it is in my heart and soul to lift up the name of Jesus! Life is all about being used as an instrument in the hands of our God Almighty. It’s about Jesus giving His life for our sins. I have a passion for His name. I want every nation to recognize his fame. Let worship be the fuel for His mission’s flame!
Through God’s amazing words, we could reach every tribe and tongue to spread His message of love and salvation to all. I am an ordinary person who has been able to overcome extraordinary health situations all with the help of God.
I leave you with one of my favorite scriptures,“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deut. 6:5)
